Arslanbob forest: the place where walnuts originally come from.
Arslanbob is one of the places you hear of, when you are searching for top spots to visit while being in Kyrgyzstan. It is a small town in region of Jalal-Abad Oblast. Population of this city is around 1500.
What really attracts tourists, are two beautiful waterfalls – worth visiting a specially in summer time. You can feel a chilly breeze on your face during hot days in Kyrgyzstan, which last for two months . On your way to the waterfalls stop at the market (bazaar) and buy some local specialties, as for example real, natural honey which you will not find anywhere else (prices from 200-400 KGS).
Arslanbob is also known for its wild walnut forest called Juglans regia. This walnut forest is the biggest on earth of area around 150 000 acres. It is located between Chatkal and Fergana mountains. It is thought that Alexander the Great took the walnuts from this forest, which later gave the beginning of plantations around Europe.
While you are in the wilderness of the forest, go a little bit further and climb a small mountain from which you will have a beautiful view on this small city.
When you will come to a point of thinking about the cheapest place to stay at for a couple of days, and you don`t really care about comfort, but a place to have a rest and take a shower, it is recommended for you to stay at Arslanbob sanatorium. It is a kind of a camp with little, not too good preserved houses, where many families with children stay. Now a little surprise, believe it or not– you will also find a place to party in, DJ starts his party at noon!
