Naryn Region, with a total area of 45,5 thousand square meters, is the largest region in Kyrgyzstan. It’s also the coldest one – the lowest temperature can reach even -45 degrees! More than 70% of the territory is occupied by mountain ranges. But it’s not all that Naryn Region is. You will also find crystal clear air, powerful rivers, tremendous watterfalls, broad meadows, wonderful lakes and wide open spaces. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that for many Naryn region is the most beautiful one in Kyrgyzstan. Son-Kol and Tash Rabat are the biggest attractions here. Courious why? Son-Kol is an alpine lake, surrounded from all sides by pasture and mountains. It’s one of the most unique places in Kyrgyzstan. It’s not easy to say something like that because there are thousands extremely marvelous places in this Central Asian country. It’s highly recommended to spend at least few days in Son-Kol! There is no connection with the world – lack of the Internet, no phone signal and electricity only for few hours per day. Sounds bad? Not at all! It’s just a perfect place to chill, especially for people who can’t live without all devices around, so for most of us. A camera is the only useful thing here to capture all these stunning views. Mountains, amazingly beautiful mountains around covered with snow make a breathtaking impression. Yes, without a doubt – It’s just a perfect place for trekking.
Tash Rabat is an old caravanserai from the 15th century, located at the altitude of 3,200 meters. It used to be a fortress and a Buddhist monastery. Now it’s one of the most popular buildings in Kyrgyzstan. Why? Because you can easily go back in time here and feel like being on the Great Silk Road. It’s a magical place with several legends. Many dark and mysterious chambers make an original atmosphere and you can simply imagine what it looked like in the past.
In Naryn region you can discover something uncommon even sitting in a car or bus, when you’re travelling from point A to B. Moldo – Ashu, for example, is an astonishing pass on the way to Son-Kol lake and one of the most incredible panoramas in Kyrgyzstan. Also the presence of numerous sheep, yaks and horses on vast fields is totally normal in this region because economy here is dominated by herding.
Naryn region has always been a place where people lived in harmony with nature. That’s the reason why it’s the most authentic part of the country. There are nomads, animals, yurts and an amazing environment. Everything you need to feel freedom. Surely, Naryn Region should be on you bucket list!
